Colocation Hosting
Rack space, redundant power, cooling, and bandwidth for your own servers in a secure datacenter, managed by the same team that maintains them.
Not every workload belongs in the public cloud. Some software is licensed per physical server, some databases are too large or too busy to move economically, and some businesses simply want to own their hardware. Colocation gives that hardware a proper home: conditioned power, cooling, fire suppression, physical security, and fast redundant internet, without building and babysitting a server room in your office.
What is included
- Rack space by the unit, half cabinet, or full cabinet
- Redundant power with UPS and generator backup
- Redundant internet connectivity and static IP addresses
- Physical security and controlled access around the clock
- Remote hands for reboots, drive swaps, and cabling changes
- Monitoring and alerting for your equipment
- Optional managed maintenance: patching, backups, and updates handled by CaneData
A good fit for
- Businesses replacing an office server room or closet
- Companies whose office power or internet is unreliable, especially through hurricane season
- Software licensed to specific physical hardware
- A private cloud (Hyper-V or VMware cluster) that you control end to end
- An off-site replication target for backups and disaster recovery
- Web and application servers that need more control than shared hosting allows
Colocation versus cloud
Cloud pricing is elastic, which is wonderful for workloads that change and expensive for workloads that do not. A server that runs at a steady load all year is usually cheaper in a rack you own than in a virtual machine you rent, once bandwidth and storage are counted. We will run the comparison for your servers and show you both numbers side by side. See Cloud & Datacenter Migrations.
Moving in is part of the service. We plan the move, rack and cable the equipment, bring it up, and verify everything before the office side is switched off.
